STELLENBOSCH. – “Hardloop! Hulle gaan jou doodmaak!” het haar pa vir haar gegil toe sy half deur die slaap by haar ouers se slaapkamer ingestrompel kom en hulle vasgebind op die grond aantref.

Caitlin Burton (20) en haar gesin is Dinsdagoggend vroeg op hul plaas Cottage Stream in die omgewing van Sir Lowryspas deur vier mans in klapmusse beroof.

Die Burger het al voorheen berig oor die sogenaamde klapmusbende wat sedert verlede jaar by Stellenbosch, Franschhoek en buite die Paarl verskeie plase en huise beroof. Dit is egter nog nie seker of Dinsdag se rowers met die klapmusbende verbind kan word nie.

Die aanval het omstreeks 03:15 plaasgevind. Die rowers het ’n deur in Burton se ouers, Mark en Sandy, se kamer oopgebreek. “Hulle het my ouers wakker gemaak en messe in hul gesigte gedruk. Hulle moes op die grond lê en hul hande is met veters vasgebind.

“Die rowers wou geld hê, maar my ma het net R50 gehad. Sy het die kluis se sleutel aan hulle gegee en hulle het die juweliersware gevat.” Burton, haar kêrel, Jason Hoffman, en Burton se broer, Michael, het in ander kamers in die huis geslaap.

Sy het vroeër die gesin se boerboel gehoor blaf en opgestaan om ondersoek in te stel. “Ek het my pa hoor praat en gedink iets is fout met my ma. “Ek het die kamerdeur oopgemaak en kon nie veel in die donker sien nie. ’n Man het skielik voor my verskyn. My pa het op my geskreeu om weg te hardloop. Ek het na my kamer toe gehardloop en die deur probeer toedruk, waarna een van die rowers dit weer oopgedruk en my teen die muur vasgedruk het.

“My kêrel het die man van my afgekry en ek het na die agterdeur gehardloop.” Volgens Burton het Michael regdeur die hele voorval geslaap. Sy en Hoffman het by die bure gaan hulp soek, maar die rowers het met hul terugkoms reeds gevlug.

Benewens die juweliersware het hul ook met tablette, ’n skootrekenaar, ’n selfoon en selfoonlaaiers weggekom. Die hele gesin het sedert die voorval berading ontvang.

Volgens lt.kol Andrè Traut, ’n provinsiale polisiewoordvoerder, is niemand nog in hegtenis geneem nie. – Die Burger
